How To Get from Orly Airport to Gare de l’Est

Travelling from Orly Airport to Gare de l’Est? The major terminus for the Parisian east-west rail services, Gare de l’Est connects the French capital with Strasbourg and the East of the country.

Orly is connected to the city via road and rail and has its own driverless automatic light railway, the Orlyval. However for journeys to Gare de l’Est there is only way direct route, the private taxi.

Transfers from Orly Airport to Gare de l’Est by Train

There are a couple of reasonable options on the suburban rail network to get from Orly Airport to Gare de l’Est.

The first option is to take the Orlyval to Antony. The Orlyval trains depart every 5-7 minutes and run between 0600 and 2335. From Antony you take the RER B train to Chatelet Les Halles, once there you need to change onto the Metro 4 which will take you to Gare de l’Est

Cost: Adult single ticket is €23.30, Child single ticket is €16.20

The second option is to take the T7 tram from Orly airport to La Fraternelle. Once there it is a quick walk to the RER station at Rungis-la-Fraternelle where you catch the RER C to Gare d’Austerlitz. From Gare d’Austerlitz you take the Metro 5 to Gare de l’Est.

Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes

Cost: Adult single ticket is €10, Child single ticket is €7

There are no intercity rail options between Paris Orly to Gare de l’Est.

Transfer from Paris Orly to Gare de l’Est by Bus

Despite the good Parisian bus networks there are no direct services from Orly airport to Gare de l’Est. There are two options using the bus, both of which start on the Orlybus – a service that goes directly between Orly airport and Denfert-Rochereau. There is one further option that uses the Ouibus.

The first option takes the Orlybus to Denfert-Rochereau where you change to the RER network and take the RER B to Gare du Nord. From there you can walk to Gare de l’Est.

Duration: 50 minutes.

Cost: Adult single ticket each way is €23.30, Child single ticket each way is €17

The second option again goes to Denfert-Rochereau but instead of taking the RER you take the Metro 4 train direct to Gare de l’Est.

Duration: 53 minutes.

The final option is to take the Ouibus from Orly Sud to Gare Montparnasse. Once there you change to the Metro 4 direct to Gare de l’Est.

While the bus options are there, they are at the mercy of Parisian traffic.
